March Is Women’s History Month: Representation Matters In All Aspects Of Life

For Women’s History Month I’d like to highlight a few amazing athletes that influenced not only me personally but the world!
The accomplishments of Serena Williams, Florence Griffith, Simone Biles and Simone Manuel in sports history are truly remarkable. My Dad was a Tennis Buff and I spent countless hours watching him beat friend after friend in the court and though he taught me to play, o somehow felt like it was a Man’s sport until I saw the dominance and greatness of Serena Williams!
Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all time, with 73 singles titles, 23 Grand Slam titles and five Olympic gold medals. She has also been a fierce advocate for the rights of women in sports, leading the way for generations of female athletes.
Growing up and playing sports myself most of us out there were sweaty and active without much focus on how we looked back in the day. Florence Griffith, changed that notion for me with her amazing athleticism married to fashion and flare for style! The hair, the nails and her athletic apparel were everything!!! “Flo Jo” was a pioneer in women's track and field, becoming the first woman to break the 60-second barrier in the 400-meter dash. She also won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championship gold medals. She was a vocal advocate for equal rights and opportunities in sports and a champion for minority groups.
We all love Simone Biles, the most decorated American gymnast of all time, with 20 world championship medals, 14 of which are gold, and four Olympic gold medals. Her incredible accomplishments have inspired countless young women to take up the sport.
As a Swimmer, my heart jumps when I see Simone Manuel compete in a meet! Simone is an Olympic swimmer who made history when she became the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in swimming. She has gone on to win several other medals, and continues to strive for excellence in the pool.
Swimming access is a disparity that needs to resolve! Swimming, is a life skill.
These four outstanding athletes have achieved so much throughout their careers and have broken down barriers in their respective sports. Their achievements will be remembered by future generations, and they serve as role models to women and minorities across the globe. I hope this read has inspired your fitness journey today and all March long for Women’s History Month!
